Welcome

  • Writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper is a time-honored way to share an opinion with decision-makers and others who read newspapers both in print and online.
  • The Star-Telegram requires a name and city of residence for letter writers. It seems only fair that we ask the same of those who wish to comment on those letters. We know that flies in the face of custom in cyberspace, but fair is fair. If the letter writers have to be identified, then so do the people who respond.
  • Posts that do not meet these requirements will be discarded. Have at it ... and play nice!

Misguided war

Sen. John McCain, smiling broadly, said in a Tuesday speech in Denver that he would “never surrender in Iraq.”

Surrender to whom? How can we kill all the terrorists when our presence in the region attracts them like a magnet?

Of course they’d rather strike the U.S. homeland, but we’ve tightened our security and they can’t gain access. That’s why we haven’t been hit with a strike since 9-11.

Having our soldiers killed almost daily in Iraq isn’t making us safer and leaves us vulnerable to attacks from other adversaries.

My hope is that Americans will reject McCain’s desire to continue this misguided war.

Isn't it strange Mr. Burton that McShamnesty talks tough when it comes to national security and defense, but has done absolutely ZERO to help secure our borders. His actions defy logic.
