You are what you eat
In the Nov. 19 article by staff writer Jan Jarvis on a diabetes study regarding poor, obese kids, I feel like something was left out. (See: “Study: Poor, obese kids often eat too little”)
The obesity “epidemic” began around the same time as the use of high-fructose corn syrup by food manufacturers. It’s now in almost everything we eat.
I hope you’ll do your homework on it and point out more frequently just how often people are consuming that cheaper form of sugar. Nothing will be done about it unless more is printed about it.
Thanks for printing the article a few weeks ago on the front page of the Business section about Jason’s Deli getting rid of the aforementioned sweetener in everything except the drinks. And congratulations to the deli!

Are you sure the "epidemic" didn't start with the proliferation of home video games and the lack of emphasis on Physical Education in schools?

What Bryan said.
More to the point.... sitting in front of computers, X Box, Play Stations, etc.
Yeah, food is to blame. You take and stuff your face while sitting on your duff playing video games.
At least when i was a teenager, i had to go to the bowling alley to play video games. That made me have to get up and walk to play.

Katie bar the door!
I actually agree with Bryan Kirby.
If our kids went OUTSIDE and PLAYED more, kiddo obesity wouldn't be such a problem.
Cheers to PE teachers who make my kids run. They hate it, but they need it. You people need a raise and a 5-day-per-week program.
Cheers to toymakers like NERF, who valiantly attempt to make fun stuff to get my kids out from in front of the TV and into the yard.
And the "Wii" -- good ideas getting better.
